The main school is comprised of three wings each with its own cloakroom and
toilet facilities. The teaching area of each wing contains three classrooms which open onto a centrally shared resource area, including a small “quiet room” facility.
The wings are linked by the front part of the school which houses the main hall, school offices and staffroom.
In addition to the main school we have an ICT suite housing 15 computers giving the facility for a class of 30 children to be taught together.
We have additional accommodation for ‘Kids Like Us’, who provide a breakfast and after school club and also Little Acorns Nursery School.
Outside, there is a hard surface and grass playing space with a variety of
imaginative play and climbing equipment, including “quiet sitting” terraces, to
enhance playtimes for all children. The conservation area, with its nature trail, pond and vegetable garden, offers the children an immediately available resource for scientific and environmental studies.
Most children transfer at the age of seven years to Southwater Junior school,
situated across the field from the Infant School.
Our classes are organised into three wings: Red Wing for Reception aged children (4-5 years), Green Wing for Year 1 children (5-6 years) and Yellow Wing for Year 2 children (6-7 years). Whilst each teacher is primarily involved with her own class group of children, it is school policy that staff share their particular talents within the school wherever possible. In addition to his/her class responsibility, each member of staff has a “subject” responsibility eg Maths, English, Science, etc, which involves attending the relevant out of school courses and conferences, disseminating information, monitoring the standards of achievement in that subject throughout the school and advising other members of staff when necessary.
