CHILDREN’S HEALTH
The school doctor and nurse have a special interest in the way in which a child’s health affects his progress in school. During a child’s first year in school, a routine check for vision and hearing takes place and a full medical examination is offered where necessary.
Further routine medical examinations do not automatically take place, but
referrals can be made at any time.
Parents are contacted when a child is unwell and unable to continue at school, or when a child is injured and needs medical treatment. It is, therefore, most
important to make sure the school has at least two contact telephone numbers and a mobile phone number.
MEDICINES
Staff cannot administer non-prescribed medication. In normal circumstances,
children who need to take medicines prescribed by the doctor are not well enough to attend school. On rare occasions when the child is considered fit to attend school, the last day of a course of medicine may be administered by the Office Staff (if the medication is required four times a day). Parents must seek permission in writing for the Office staff to administer the midday dose. All medicines must be clearly marked with the child’s name and correct dosage.
Special arrangements can be made for children who require medication for
asthma or similar conditions. Parents are asked to advise the school of any severe allergies and relating symptoms their child has been diagnosed with.
