SCIENCE
Science, with its emphasis on the study of the environment and concern
for direct observation and practical investigation is an important part of
our curriculum. It assists children to bring questioning minds to their experience of things around them. Most of our science is taught within
our “topic work” and many of the skills and attitudes we seek to develop
overlap with other areas of the curriculum. We aim to encourage:
* an enjoyment of science based activities
* a questioning attitude towards the environment
* the ability to observe carefully
* the ability to find information from reference books
* the ability to carry out simple experiments carefully and safely
* the ability to interpret findings
* the ability to communicate findings:- through speech, drawing, writing,
graphs and charts.
The emphasis is on “doing”, “exploring” and “communicating” at the
same time as learning scientific knowledge.
