Parents, Teachers and Friends Association
Who are we?
The Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, or PTFA, is a registered charity and comprises of a group of people who volunteer their time and support in organising fundraising events for both Southwater Junior and Infant Schools. As a parent, you are automatically a member and can be involved as much or as little as you wish.
The PTFA has become a very active body and plays a leading role in community life being the organiser of two main events held in Southwater village every year, namely the Firework Extravaganza and the Summer Fete. These particular events are produced jointly with Castlewood School and both associations work together before and during the events.
What do we do?
Our main focus is to raise money through a variety of large events and smaller scale projects. The committee meet every few weeks and discuss new projects, planned events, and how we can further our involvement with parents and friends. There is a lot of behind the scenes organisation required especially for our large scale events so we often need the valued help from additional volunteers to cover a wide range of tasks, large or small.
Why do we do it?
People will offer several reasons but everyone always has one main one. They know that all funds raised from an event that they have supported will ultimately be used to improve the equipment and services that are available to their children and therefore enriching their educational provision.
How have funds been used?
The PTFA recently presented a cheque to Mrs Winn for £4949. These funds were generated in 2010-2011 and are spent by the Head teachers on additional equipment and services which directly benefit all school pupils.
Here are a few examples of how these funds have been spent:
§ ICT equipment
§ Tray stacks
§ Dragonfly mosaic
§ May Pole
§ Bat visitor for Year 1
§ Year 1 Toy museum
§ Year 2 leavers disco
§ In school wildlife talks
§ Staging for performances
How can you help?
We know that you may not feel like coming to our regular meetings but you can still help in many other ways. However, if you would like to come it would be great to see you!
The help we need depends on the event but usually there is a need for baking, face painting, nail painting, running or helping on a stall at a fair, serving in a Beer Tent or helping in the PTFA Café. Especially for our Firework event we need people to be marshals, and help with lifting barriers, putting up signage etc.
You may have an IT skill in Powerpoint or Publisher which would also be really useful. You may have other skills which we just don’t know about but could certainly use!
Whatever help you can give will always be much appreciated and need not be all the time.
I’m interested – what do I do next?
Just fill out the enquiry form found on the link below and send to annacoleman.pta@gmail.com One of the PTFA officers will then contact you.
THANK YOU
